Potent neutralizer of free radicals: Ferulic acid not only scavenges reactive oxygen species, but also stabilizes and boosts the efficacy of vitamins C and E. In topical use, it has been shown to reduce photoaging – one study noted that ferulic acid (in a C+E+ferulic formula) doubled protection against UV-induced skin redness and DNA damage compared to vitamins alone. It can lighten dark spots over time and protect collagen from UV-induced degradation.
